Mawlana Hazar Imam completed his 50th year as the Imam of the Ismaili community on 11 July 2007. Fifty years ago, at the age of 20, Hazar Imam succeeded his grandfather, Mawlana Sultan Mahomed Shah, as the 49th hereditary Imam (spiritual leader) of the Shia Ismaili Muslims.

After an eight-day visit to the states of Texas, California, Illinois and Georgia, Mawlana Hazar Imam departed the United States today, concluding his Golden Jubilee visit to the country.

It is nearly 22 years since Hazar Imam last visited with the entire USA Jamat, and the excitement is palpable as members of the Jamat celebrate in anticipation of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s Golden Jubilee visit to the United States. Hazar Imam is expected to grant Darbars in San Antonio, Texas; Los Angeles, California; Chicago, Illinois; and Atlanta, Georgia, between 11 – 19 April 2008.

The celebrations began early on the morning of 11 July 2007 across North America as the long-awaited day finally dawned. It was the start of the Golden Jubilee, a day of celebration for all Ismailis around the world in commemoration of 50 years of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s Imamat.
