How to use the Nutrition Centre
Here are a few pointers that will get you started with the Nutrition Centre:
- Find your favourite recipe. The recipe finder allows you to discover recipes from different regions of the world. You will find a host of meat and poultry, fish, and vegetarian recipes, as well as rice, breads and desserts to accompany your meals.
- Search for recipes based on how they fit into a balanced diet. Choose how healthy your recipe is by selecting whether its fat, saturated fat, sugar and salt content are rated green, amber or red. Each recipe includes its own traffic light ratings so you know how healthy it is — or not!
- Get healthy cooking ideas. Read the hints that accompany each recipe to learn how you can make healthier choices.
- Learn about the nutritional composition of a recipe. Using the Food Facts section you can assess how a recipe can fit into your daily diet. If you want to know how many calories, fats, sugars, carbohydrates and other nutrients your recipe has, simply refer to the nutritional analysis accompanying the recipe.
- Get extra nutrient information on all recipes. If you want to learn more about the science or would like to compare the nutritional content of one recipe with another, use the Nutrient Content of Recipes table. It lists nutritional information for all recipes featured in the Nutrition Centre.
The Nutrition Centre allows traditional recipes to be evaluated against dietary guidelines. Being aware of the healthy and less healthy aspects of your own diet is the first step towards making better choices. In selecting from among the recipes available on the site, choose those that are tasty and healthy — new ones are being added regularly.
